POMONA- Appanoose Elementary School was placed in lock down this morning because of threatening phone calls. The school was scheduled to have an outdoor barbecue, and the police scanner reported that a man who identified himself as “Mr. Hagey” told school officials he was headed to the school to “take care of the family.” The kids were fed indoors, and because of an already planned early 12:30 release, buses were able to come around 12:15 to pick up the kids and take them home. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department monitored traffic to make sure only authorized vehicles got onto school grounds. Superintendent Dodson Bradbury says he’s thankful for the efficiency of the school’s employees and the sheriff’s department.
“The principal did a great job, the staff out there did a great job, our students did an excellent job,” Bradbury said. “I just can’t reiterate enough the appreciation we have for the law enforcement that serve our area, they just did an excellent job. I just appreciate that service very much.”
Bradbury says the officers are still looking for this individual.
