OLATHE — A 22-year-old kitchen worker who was severely burned in a bizarre traffic accident at the Church’s Chicken fast food restaurant in Olathe on Aug, 21 has been released from the burn center at the University of Kansas Hospital. Gary Cifuentes was burned when a 75-year-old woman drove through the wall of the kitchen and knocked over a deep-fat fryer, covering him with hot grease. He told the Kansas City Star that he was thankful for the support he received from the public and company and that his recovery has been a miracle. Kansas Workers’ Compensation is paying for his care, but friends said it’s not clear the fund will cover all of the costs and they’ve been raising money for a trust fund in his name — Gary Cifuentes Trust Fund at any UMB Bank or mailed to the branch at 11101 W. 87th St., Overland Park, KS, 66214.
