LAWRENCE — Two Jewish organizations affiliated with Kansas University will host celebrations related to the upcoming Jewish new year holidays. The Chabad Center of Lawrence will offer several services and celebrations around the upcoming holidays of Rosh Hashana, beginning tonight and Yom Kippur, which is next week. The Chabad Center will host a Rosh Hashana new year service tonight at 7, followed by a new year dinner at 7:45. Thursday and Friday morning services are 9:30 and the Shofar horn blown each day at 11, followed by a holiday lunch. KU Hillel, 722 New Hampshire, will have a Rosh Hashana service tonight at 7:30 and a Rosh Hashana Shabbat dinner from 6 to 7 Friday night. All events are free and open to the public. For Yom Kippur, the Chabad Center will host services at 6:45 p.m. Oct. 7, 9:30 a.m. Oct. 8, including “Yizkor,” remembering the departed, at noon; and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 8.
