TOPEKA — The Museum of the Kansas National Guard will host “Civil War Day” Saturday at Forbes Field in Topeka The Lecompton Re-enactors, the Kaw Valley cornet Band, and other Civil War enthusiasts will be featured. Activities will kick off with a pancake feed from 7 to 9 Saturday morning with donations accepted. At 9, the National Guard Association will present a briefing to retirees and the Civil War presentations will begin. Presenters include Randy Durbin, Carbondale, who will portray Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, and Jim Bevins, who portrays a Civil War blacksmith. There will also be presentations on Civil War medicine and the Civil War Sanitary Commission. The event is free and open to the public. Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 to 4. Admission is free.
