TOPEKA — Topeka and Shawnee County officers and the Johnson County Sheriff’s diving team didn’t get any nasty surprises Tuesday afternoon when they fished two cars out of Lake Shawnee in Topeka. The Topeka-Capital Journal reported that a few months before, when they pulled an old Oldsmobile out of Lake Shawnee, they found the body of Leonard Jordan, 84, Milwaukee, who disappeared nearly 30 years after visiting family members in Topeka. Authorities ruled that there was no foul play involved in his disappearance. This time, there were no bodies or anything else of interest in the 1980s era Chevrolet Camaro and 1996 Oldsmobile dredged from the depths. Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and tourism rangers discovered the submerged carss as they tested new sonar equipment on the lake earlier this year.
