OTTAWA — Bettie Ore, Paola, was honored by the General Edward Hand chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Ore received the national society’s Community Service Award this weekend in Ottawa. She is president and a founding member of the Miami County Historical Society. The DAR says that for many years, Ore has driven more than 100 miles each week to serve as a volunteer reader at Kansas Audio-Reader for the blind on the Kansas University campus at Lawrence. In 2008, she received a Points of Light volunteer award from Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
