BALDWIN CITY — Baker will mark the 100th anniversary of U.S. Pres. William Howard Taft’s visit to the university. The anniversity will be marked during the fall convocation Tuesday morning at 11 at Rice Auditorium. Taft, who was president from 1909 to 1913, sandwiched between Theodore Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson, delivered a speech on world peace as part of the inaugural ceremony for Baker president Wilbur Nesbitt Mason at what is now known as Mabee Hall. Baker history professors John Richards and Leonard Ortiz will speak at the convocation. Twelve members of Baker’s speech choir will perform, focusing on Taft’s speech. Baker president Pat Long and student senate president Caleb Watts will also speak. The Baker University Brass Quintet and Baker University Concert Choir will perform. The public is invited.
