OTTAWA — The Ottawa Police Department is investigating a report of possible child abuse involving a nine-month-old baby. Ottawa police said Ransom Memorial Hospital staff made a report to police late Wednesday night when the baby was brought in for treatment of injuries. The department launched a criminal investigation because there wasn’t enough information at first to determine why the injuries occurred, Lt. Adam Weingartner said. The baby was being treated at a Kansas City area hospital, he said. Weingartner said he won’t comment now on the nature of the injuries other than they weren’t life-threatening. The case remains under investigation, he said.
