It’s the story of the season: the Summer’s drought conditions have made a negative impact on crop yields. Not only is the soy bean harvest at lows, the hay has also been affected. Fortunately, Franklin County Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent Darren Hibdon says while the quantity was affected, the quality of the hay is still on par. This will be one of the topics of conversation at the upcoming Beef cattle meeting on the 26th.
“(We’ll) Focus on cow herd nutrition, and maybe stretching that hay supply, getting by with not as much hay as normal,” Hibdon said. “Many producers are dealing with that situation.”
The meeting will be held at Celebration Hall on the Fairgrounds in Ottawa. While it’s free to attend, you’re asked to RSVP by contacting the Franklin County Conservation District at 242-1109 ext 41.
