GARNETT — About 22 acres of grass and woods owned by the city of Garnett northwest of town doesn’t seem like a prime hunting ground. But the Anderson County Review reports that it’s primo for some hunters. Some people think the area, which is the old city trash dump and present burn pit, is a good place to find deer. City commissioners have turned down a request from one deer hunter who wanted to lease the land for hunting. Instead, commissioners decided they’ll just do what they’ve always done — allow hunters to use the land if they get a permit. Garnett city manager Joyce Martin said not many hunters request permits and she prefers not to issue many each year, out of consideration for area neighbors.
