KANSAS CITY — The state of Missouri is holding a series of public meetings about the rail system in the state. The Missouri Department of Transportation seeks public comment on freight and passenger train traffic in the state for the next 20 years. MoDOT has been aggressively seeking federal high-speed passenger rail grants to improve the main line between Kansas City and St. Louis. Many of the improvements are on the Union Pacific route that carries Amtrak passenger trains between the two cities and is a major freight line. One of the hearings will be in the Kansas City area next week. The meeting will be from 5:30 to 7 Wednesday night at the Sermon Center North room in Independence, Mo. MoDOT is hosting an on-line public meeting until Nov. 18 http://www.morail.org.
