OTTAWA — Assistant Ottawa School Supt. Dr. Jean McCully has died at the age of 47 after a two-year battle with breast cancer. McCully started in the district for 14 years as Garfield principal after being a principal at Paola. She has been an assistant superintendent in charge of school curriculum and has had a major positive impact on thousands of Ottawa students, said Supt. Dean Katt.l Her funeral will be Friday morning at 10 at the Ottawa University Chapel. Katt said he expects so many USD 290 staffers to attend that he decided to cancel classes Friday. However, the Ottawa Area Chamber of Commerce coffee Friday morning at 8 at the new district office, which is the old Eisenhower school, will be held as scheduled, Katt said. Memorial have been established with either The Ssusan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation or the University of Kansas Cancer Center in care of Lamb-Roberts Funeral Home of Ottawa.
