GARNETT — Part of heavily-traveled Park Road in Garnett will get a long-awaited sidewalk. But the Anderson County Review reported another complaint about the city’s handicapped accessibility brought federal inspectors to Garnett recently to see what progress the city had been made on a long-term plan to meet requirements of the Americans With Disabilities Act. (ADA). Garnett city manager Joyce Martin said the city has completed about 90 percent of city has planned for last year and this year. However, the city won’t be able to finish sidewalks along U.S. 59 before winter but will build a sidewalks along Park Road between Oak Street and Casey’s General Store this year. Property owners along the route agreed to a change that moves the sidewalk off the city right-of-way and onto their properties but will save thousands of dollars for the city, she said. The biggest obstacle to the city’s ADA list is the airport administrative building and terminal, she said.
