KANSAS CITY — A Johnson County man has been sentenced to more than two years in federal prison for sophisticated scheme in which he helped sell $1 million worth of counterfeit Cisco computer equipment. U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom said Timothy Weatherly, 29, Overland Park pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to traffic in and smuggle counterfeit goods. Weatherly admitted he operated a business called Deals Direct from his home in Overland Park and a warehouse in Merriam. He and Christopher Meyers, also of Johnson County, imported computer equipment from China and put counterfeit cCisco labels on the equipment and placed the counterfeit goods in Cisco boxes with counterfeit Cisco manuals. The counterfeit equipment was sold on Deal Direct’s Web site and on E-Bay as genuine Cisco equipment. They got access to Cisco’s confidential Web site to get legitimate Cisco serial numbers. Meyers was sentenced to nearly three years in prison earlier this year.
