OTTAWA — It’s Nov.15. The Kansas Highway Patrol said that statistically, today is the most likely day of the year that you’ll hit a deer. Sheriff Jeff Curry said because deer are in rut, they aren’t paying attention to you, so you need to pay attention for them. He says be especially careful along wooded areas. And he said if there’s one deer, there’ll be others, so if a deer crosses the road in front of you, odds there will be two or three more as well, he said. Drive more slowly and don’t outdrive headlights, he said. Put on deer whistles, he said. They may not always work but if they’ll stop a deer at least once, they’re worth the price, he said.
