WASHINGTON — Three area high school seniors are on a list released by U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts of those who will receive his nomination for appointments to U.S.. service academies. In making the nominations, Roberts followed the recommendations of his academy screening board, who interviewed candidates and reviewed applications and grades. Once nominated, the applicants then must meet the admission requirements of each academy, which will make the final decision on who will receive an appointment this spring. Cecilia Wuertz, Richmond, was nominated for the Air Force Academy. Derek Moore, Wellsville, was nominated for the Naval Academy. Sarah Hay, Osawatomie, was nominated for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
