OTTAWA — Back in 1966, when ECKAN first started, things were pretty simple, said CEO richard Jackson during his keynote speech Wednesday at a banquet marking the agency’s 45th anniversary of eckan. Jackson said the agency operated out of private houses, with staffers knocking on doors. He said he was concerned about the country’s future because many have become greedy, with every person looking out for his own interests and disregarding the needs of others. Jackson also criticized President Obama for not supporting community action programs and he said ECKAN faces yet another battle to maintain funding for critical programs. After his speech, Jackson and other ECKAN officials presented numerous awards to ECKAN volunteers.
