SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Buy your Thanksgiving fruits and vegetables now. Weather forecasters say an early and near-record cold wave is going to hit central California, which is one of the primary growing areas for citrus and vegetables, this week. Producers in the central valley are hearing freeze warnings, U.S. Department of Agriculture forecaster Brad Rippey said. So far, predicted lows are in the mid-30s and citrus producers may be able to prepare to handle the low temperatures, he said. However, Rippey said computer models show two other unusually cold systems will come out of the Pacific and hit California.
