TOPEKA — Kansans turned in slightly more than 3,800 pounds of unused prescription drugs at 60 locations during the National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Oct. 29. Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt saids that was more than the amount of medications collected last year. Unused medications lingering in medicine cabinets are a hazard and can be misused or abused, Schmidt said. Throwing them away or flushing them down toilets can pose environmental hazards, he said. Unused prescriptions can be turned in year-round at many local law enforcement locations. Kansans should contact their local sheriff’s office or police department for more information.
