BALDWIN CITY — Baker University’s original King James Bible will be on the cover of the December National Geographic magazine. The Bible is one of the crown jewels of Baker’s William Quayle Bible Collection, which is highlighted in the cover story. The National Geographic is marking the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. Kansas photojournalist Jim Richardson, Lindsborg, took the photos for the story, which looks at the impact on the King James Bible on the English language and politics and culture in the English-speaking world. Baker will host an open house Sunday afternoon, Dec. 4, from 1 to 3 at the Alumni Center to showcase the King James Bible that’s featured in the National Geographic. There will be a limited number of free copies of the National Geographic at the open house. During the open house, visitors are welcome at the Quayle collection, which is housed at the Collins Library at Baker. The collection has two copies of the 400-year-old first edition of the King James Version. The collection began with a 1925 gift from the estate of Bishop William Quayle, a president of Baker.
