OTTAWA — The deadline for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., essay contest is in a little less than a month — December 19. Contest applicants must be elementary or secondary students in Franklin County. Awards and reading of essays will be at the annual King Day program at the Ottawa University Chapel on Jan. 15. The essay theme is: “How Would I Make My Community a Better Place to Live?” Essays should be 450 words or less. Entries should be sent to Richard Jackson, P. O. Box 40, Ottawa, KS, 66067, or dropped off at the ECKAN central office at 1320 S. Ash, in Ottawa.
