OTTAWA – Ottawa merchants has adopted different strategies to attact shoppers for the Black Friday shopping frenzy. Front Row Sports, which has stores in downtown Ottawa and Garnett, was one of the earliest retailers to open for today’s at 4. However, Black Friday isn’t necessarily one of the biggest days for the sporting good stores, said owner Roger Sample. Orscheln’s opened at 6 this morning. Store manager Tel Alexander said there’s always about 100 people waiting for the doors to open. It’s a big day, but not the biggest day, he said. Unlike many stores on Black Friday, Weigand’s Brand Source downtown opened this morning at the regular time. Owner Adam Weigand said he figures that opening later will give shoppers a time to warm up by the time he hits the doors at his store. Shoppers tell KOFO the day wasn’t uneventful – they said there were a couple of fistfights and one shopper biting another at Wal-Mart SuperCenter early this morning.
