GARNETT — Anderson County Attorney Fred Campbell has urged the Anderson County Commission to end the contract of county counselor James Campbell. The Anderson County Review reported Fred Campbell said his office can be counselor at a third of the cost of county pays James Campbell. That’s about $17,000 each year. State law requires county attorneys to provide legal counsel for the county commission, unless counselors specifically hire a separate counselor. The Review noted that Fred Campbell has been at odds with James Campbell since Fred Campbell lost his law license over how he handled an incident involved in a teen drinking party in which a sex act was recorded and disseminated by other party-goers. When counselor James Campbell heard the mother of the girl involved planned to sue the county, he turned her complaint over to the state disciplinary administrator’s office, which suspended Fred Campbell’s license for a year-and-a-half. County Commissioner Dudley Feuerborn told the Review that commissioners haven’t seriously discussed Fred Campbell’s suggestion.
