TOPEKA — Several area high school students have been nominated to U.S. service academies by Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins. Jenkins was aided in the nomination process by her non-partisan military academy nominations board made up of Kansans who have graduated from the service academies or have years of military experience and leadership. The nomination does not guarantee admission to a service academy, she said. The service academies will make the final decisions. Nominees include: Logan O’Dea, Wellsville High School; Cecilia Wuertz, Central Heights; and Garrett Griffin and Chad Turney, Louisburg; to the Air Force Academy. Sarah Hay, Osawatomie High School; and Griffin; to the Military Academy at West Point; Derek Moore and Caleb Smith, both Wellsville High School; to the Naval Academy.
