LAWRENCE — A 46-year-old Edgerton man will serve 11-and-a half years in prison for molesting two girls, ages 5 and 6, near Baldwin City last year. The Lawrence Journal-World reported that Douglas County District Judge Peggy Kittel followed the terms of a plea agreement that spared Scott Bivins a life sentence. But Bivins will be subject to lifetime supervision on parole, including electronic monitoring. In August, Bivins pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, one for each victim. The newspaper said the plea agreement was based on an evaluation that revealed Bivins was sexually abused as a boy. The parents of the victims agreed with the plea agreement, mostly because the victims would not have to testify at a trial, the paper said. Bivins has already spent 10 months in jail, and he could receive credit for another 20 months for good behavior in prison.
