KANSAS CITY — Union Station will raise the Titanic. It’s a larger version of the traveling exhibit that was in Kansas City 10 years ago, and will be in Kansas City during the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the fabled luxury ship. “Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition” opens March 10 at Union Station. The ocean liner, called “unsinkable” by the White Star Line, was state-of-the-art when it rammed an iceberg during its maiden voyage in the North Atlantic and sank in the early hours of April 15, 1912. More than 1,500 people went down with the ship or died in the freezing sea. The Titanic has generated scores of books and movies since. The Kansas City Star reported that the first Titanic exhibit still holds Union Station’s record for the largest attendance with more than 280,000.
