OSAWATOMIE- Osawatomie will have a big time guest in town next week. President Obama has plans to visit the Miami County town and according to the news release, will “talk about how he sees this as a make or break moment for the middle class and all those working to join it.” It’s been just over 100 years since President Teddy Roosevelt visited Osawatomie and talked on a parallel theme. Mayor of Osawatomie Philip Dudley has another problem he’d like to discuss with the President.
“I know that several of the Eastern Kansas counties, including Franklin and Miami county, would like to discuss the levee certification issues,” Dudley said. “I would absolutely take that opportunity to talk the President about those issues.”
Mayor Dudley says the levee issue is a big one because the certification is mandated and funding it is a problem.
Tickets to attend the President’s talk will be available at the Osawatomie High School tomorrow at noon and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Obama will speak at the high school on Tuesday at 1:05.
