TOPEKA — The Brownback Administration is all-twitter again because of a Tweet. This time, the offending Tweet came from a Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services official who used Twitter to suggest that people protest Pres. Barack Obama’s visit to Osawatomie. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that Melissa Ward, an SRS ombudsman, used her personal Twitter account to ask her 680 followers to protest the speech. An SRS spokeswoman said the Tweet was meant as a joke, and the Tweet was removed. Recently, Gov. Sam Brownback apologized for how his staff reacted to a tweet from a suburban Kansas City high school student who made disparaging comments about the governor while taking part in a Youth in Government program in Topeka. In that case, Brownback’s office, which monitors social media for postings containing his name, contacted the youth program. The newspaper said Ward is a regional director for the presidential campaign of Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who has been endorsed by Brownback.
