OTTAWA — Because of budget cuts, the Old Depot Museum will be closed in January and February, Franklin County Historical Society executive director Deb Barker told county commissioners today. Normally, the Old Depot Museum hosts the annual Kansas Day celebration in January with special events and children’s programs, and is one of the museum’s biggest draws. However, because of the closing, that won’t happen next year, Barker said. The historical society has made one layoff, cut hours and making other reductions, she said. The county commissioners made steep cuts in the historical society budget for next year and said they plan more cuts in later years.
