OTTAWA – On a split vote Wednesday night, the Ottawa City Commission approved an ordinance that would require groups to get city permission to do stop-light fundraisers at street intersections. The ordinance is the result of a church recently doing such fundraisers at 23rd and 15th intersections of Princeton Street, city attorney Bob Bezek explains the ordinance. The permit procedure should be in place in January, he said. The ordinance passed on a 4-1 vote, with Mayor Gene Ramsey casting the dissenting vote.
