SALINA – A western Kansas foundation has given $150,000 to the newly opened University of Kansas School of Medicine campus at Salina. The gift from the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, of Logan, will provide support for scholarships, facilities and equipment at the new Salina campus. The school welcomed its first class of eight first-year medical students this fall. KU said it established the Salina medical school site this fall to help address the shortage of physicians in Kansas, particularly in rural areas of the state. The school is housed in space provided by Salina Regional Health Center. Its four-year medical school curriculum is identical to that at the KU School of Medicine campuses in Kansas City and Wichita.
