OSAWATOMIE – The Osawatomie City Council has scheduled a budget amendment public hearing for Dec. 28 at Memorial Hall. The Osawatomie Graphic reports the amendment is ugly. The paper says because of heavy shortfalls in city revenues, the city proposes to transfer $825,000 from the city’s electric fund to prop up the rest of the city’s budget. City manager Don Cawby said the city’s tax revenues saw an unexpected drop and the city was also hammered by having to spend an unexpected $128,000 to certify the flood levees. The transfer also includes $65,000 to keep the Osawatomie Municipal Golf Course solvent. Next year’s budget doesn’t look any better and he says he expects sharp declines in revenues, he said.
