TOPEKA – The state of Kansas will pay $350,000 to settle a sex discrimination lawsuit against former state attorney general Phill Kline. Gov. Sam Brownback and top legislative leaders agreed to pay former Johnson County prosecutor Jacqie Spradling. Spradling filed suit after Kline, who was Johnson County district attorney, fired her in 2007 after she formally complained about sex discrimination. Kline said he fired Spradling for insubordination and a poor attitude. But Spradling said she was fired a few weeks after she filed the complaint. In October, Johnson County agreed to pay $7,500 to a domestic violence shelter to settle their part of Spradling’s lawsuit.
