KANSAS CITY -As it is officially the first day of Winter, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management System wants to make sure everyone is ready for severe cold and storms. Regional Administrator for FEMA Region 7 Beth Freeman says that it doesn’t matter how much FEMA or its partners do, people helping themselves and their neighbors is what’s key to bouncing back. Among recommendations is staying indoors when the weather is bad outdoors, and if you must travel, make sure you have an emergency preparedness kit with you. A proper kit would include a three-day supply of food and water, a battery operated radio, flashlights and batteries. For other tips on winter safety visit www.ready.gov/winter-weather.
