PAOLA — Kansas City KMBC TV Channel 9 is reporting that a Miami County deputy shot and wounded a teenager while responding to a domestic disturbance this morning west of Paola near 287th Street and Plum Creek Road. The Miami County Sheriff’s office has confirmed the shooting, telling KMBC that an out-of-control teenager threw a pick ax at a sheriff’s cruiser and then charged two officers with a baseball bat, hitting them both. The department said one of the deputies unsuccessfully fired a Taser at the teen, after which a deputy shot him in the leg. The teen was taken to a Kansas City hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries. The boy’s father and the two deputies were being treated for injuries as well. The shooting remains under investigation.
