SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A 26-year-old Colony man accused of threatening police officers in two states and taking part in a chase through Allen county last month was arrested at a motel near Springfield, Mo., recently. The Anderson County Review reported that police say Garrett Cleaver, Colony, threatened an officer with a rifle during the chase. Allen County officers said they chased a car driven by Melissa Elder for eight miles until she stopped in Humboldt. A passenger jumped out with a rifle and started running. The man confronted an officer with the rifle and when the officer took cover, the man ran and jumped back in to the vehicle and took off. The vehicle crashed in a rural area and the man fled with the rifle into the woods and escaped. Cleaver was later arrested in a Missouri by U.S. Marshals in connection with the incident. He was also wanted for threatening a Missouri police officer with an assault rifle following a traffic stop. Cleaver was also wanted in connection for drug charges in Missouri and in connection with a fatal crash in Neosho County, Kan. Elder was charged for aiding and abetting Cleaver’s escape.
