HUTCHINSON — A Hutchinson-area man is being honored for saving two young girls who fell through thin ice on a pond behind his house on Christmas day. The Hutchinson News reported Bud Brown saw Jenna McKay, 6, Bernice, Okla., and 7-year-old Janessa Stringer, 7, Belle Plaine, fall into the icy water. After he called 911, he waded into the chest-deep water, breaking the ice with his fists. He reached the girls and pulled them from the water. The News reported the girls were treated at a hospital but not seriously injured.
