OTTAWA — The Ottawa City Commission unanimously approved a controversial rezoning of properties southwest of Ottawa but in the city’s urban growth area. One of the residents in the rezoning area, Butch Riddle, filed a protest petition against the action.
City attorney Bob Bezek says Riddle’s petition is valid and because the petition passed the legal hurdle, the city commission had to approve the rezoning by at least a 4-1 vote. The 5-0 rendered the point moot. Riddle has said he may sue the city. However, Bezek urged commissioners to vote as they thought was right and not to be affected by a threatened lawsuit.
