OTTAWA — At their meeting Wednesday night, the Ottawa City Commission declared Jan. 16 as Martin Luther King, Jr., Day in Ottawa. Richard Jackson accepted the proclamation and told commissioners about the annual King Day celebration Jan. 15 at Ottawa University. Attorney General Derek Schmidt will be the guest speaker, Jackson said. There will also be music from area church choirs. Two hundred youngsters from every elementary school in the county entered the King Day essay contest this year, he said.
