KANSAS CITY — A federal judge will allow a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former Anderson County jailer against the county to continue in U.S. District Court. Jerry Slyter worked as a jailer and part-time deputy for Anderson County from 1998 until October 2010. The Anderson County Review reported that Slyter claims the county fired him for violating an unwritten policy but said the sheriff’s department wanted to retain a female jailer with less seniority instead. He said he was fired after he reported what he called violations of jail procedures by the female jailer. The judge rejected a counter-claim by the county’s insurance company, K-CAMP, that Slyter didn’t properly follow the appeals process before filing his lawsuit. No date has been set for a trial.
