GARNETT-As construction progresses on the new Garnett Elementary School, concerns are raised about how the traffic is going to be managed come fall. The focus is on whether or not there needs to be a southbound turn lane on U.S. 59 to the school. The Anderson County Review reports that the school district’s engineer says an earlier study didn’t show necessity in adding the southbound lane, but the Kansas Department of Transportation wants another study to be done. The most current plans call for a northbound turn lane, two optional entrances for motorists dropping kids off, and a separate entrance for buses. If the adding of a southbound turn lane is justified, the city of Garnett could be responsible for making it happen.
