PAOLA — The Miami County commissioners are discussing a merger of the Miami County Extension office with the Johnson County Extension office. The Osawatomie Graphic reported commissioners will broach the subject of a new Extension district with Johnson County commissioners. The Extension boards from both counties are interested in a joint Extension distric, Commissioner George Pretz said. However, commissioners are agreeable but said Johnson County commissioners may have concerns because they would likely contribute more funding but under state law, would have the same members on the district board despite the county’s much larger size. Like the Frontier District with Franklin and Osage counties, if the merger happens, the district would become its own taxing entity.
