OTTAWA — Retired Ottawa police detective Rick Geist has filed for Franklin County. He filed as a Republican, setting up a potential primary contest with Sheriff Jeff Curry. Geist’s son Russel was a Franklin County deputy who died of natural causes while he was on duty last year, shortly after Geist retired from the Ottawa Police Department. Geist is one of two filings. County Clerk Shari Perry, a Republican, has filed for re-election to her office.
