OTTAWA — Winners of the Ottawa Martin Luther King, Jr., essay contest were Lincoln second-grader Ava Waterman, Garfield fourth-grader Nikki Nellor and West Franklin eighth-grader Kylee Prouty. Other first- and second-graders who won prizes include Lily Roll of Central Heights, Marley Dettrick of Wellsville, and Drue St. John and Lauren Paddock of Garfield Elementary School. Third- through fifth-graders – Emma Chidster, Eugene Field; Stevie Knudsen, Garfield; Saylee Shabarwall and Carson Richardson, Wellsville. Sixth- through eighth-graders – Evan Macklin, David Rolland, McKenzie Daniels and Keaton Wise, all of wWest Franklin Middle School. The essay topic was “If I Could Make a Difference in My Community.” The winners were announced at the King Day celebration at Ottawa University Sunday afternoon.
