OSWEGO — The former Labette Correctional Conservation Camp at Oswego will be renovated and reopened next Jan. 1. If legislators approve the plan, the camp will house 262 inmates who are primarily elderly and infirmed, Kansas Secretary of Corrections Ray Roberts said. The camp will hire about 56 corrections employees, he said. The site was closed three years ago because of budget cuts. The state will use $1.7 million dollars from lottery revenues. Next year, the state will set aside $2.2 million from the general fund to operate the facility.
