COLONY — The Colony Fire Department will show off its new fire station to the public Saturday afternoon from 3 to 6. Volunteer firefighters will be on hand to give tours of the new building, and offer a meal including hot dogs, beans, chips and beverages for a free-will donation. The station was built mostly with volunteer labor. Firefighter Paul Stephens told the Anderson County Review that the new station came about after two years of planning and construction. The station was needed because the department didn’t have enough room for its trucks and equipment, he said. The station includes a concrete safe room to protect citizens in the event of a tornado, a first for the community. The city received a state grant of about $300,000. City residents provided more than $200,000 worth of labor to match the grant and build the station.
