OTTAWA — A fire in a first-floor women’s bathroom this morning at Ransom Memorial Hospital damaged the bathroom and area above the bathroom and spread smoke through part of the hospital. Ottawa firefighters were using large fans to pull the smoke out of the hospital. An exhaust fan in the bathroom overheated and caught fire, Assistant Fire Chief Richard Oglesby said. He said he didn’t know if a patient or hospital staffer discovered the fire. Firefighters were called shortly after 6:15 a.m. It’s too early to determine the damage but Oglesby said he expected the damage to be a little above $2,000 to $3,000. There were no injuries.
