OTTAWA — The Ottawa City Commission has scheduled a public hearing for Wednesday night concerning a demolition permit for the former Hometown Computers building at 124 S. Main St. The three-story building is in foreclosure and is owned by a Kansas City bank that took out the permit. City manager Richard Nienstedt said the hearing is necessary because the building is in a historical district and the Kansas State Historical Society refused to grant the permit. The city must hold a public hearing before it can over-ride the historical society. The building, especially the two upper floors, is in unusually bad shape and represents a safety hazard, he said.:
