GARDNER – Voters in the Gardner-Edgerton school district approved a nearly $73 million  bond issue Tuesday. The Johnson County election office said the bond issue passed by slightly more than 54 percent. Turnout in the mail ballot was about 41 percent of registered voters in the district. A little more than $18 million will build an elementary school and $30  million to build a new middle school, with both schools on one campus. The district will use part of the bond issue to build a multi-purpose activity center, improve the high school sports complex, technology improvements, and capital improvements ranging from roofs, heating and cooling systems, and playground equipment. The Johnson County election office also said voters of the Blue Valley school district approved a $271 million bond issue by an even more overwhelming margin in a mail ballot Tuesday.
