IOLA – A 19 year-old Iola volunteer rural firefighter will spend 60 days in the Allen County jail after his guilty plea last week to five felony arson charges. The Anderson County Review reported Lee Berg had faced 23 separate arson charges after a series of fires last spring and summer in Allen and Anderson counties. One fire burned some 250 large hay bales valued at $25,000. Investigators used GPS tracking to establish his presence at 21 of the fires. Berg has been ordered to pay restitution to victims.
